Napoli have reportedly pulled out of the race to sign Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez, with Atletico Madrid set to make a shock move.
The Italian club have been unable to agree a fee for the midfielder, who played under Carlo Ancelotti during his time in charge at the Bernabeu.
Rodriguez has just one season left on his contract at Real and, according to Gazzetto dello Sport, Napoli weren’t willing to meet their £37million asking price.

Rodriguez is out of favour at Madrid after spending the last two seasons on loan at Bayern Munich, who declined an option to sign him permanently this summer.
The 28-year-old is keen to move on before Spain’s transfer deadline slams shut on September 2 and he could now be offered a surprise escape route.
City rivals Atletico have been linked with a move for Rodriguez in recent weeks, with Koke admitting the Colombia international would be welcome at the club, and they will now reportedly make a bid for the player.
Atletico and Real have already done business this summer, with Marcos Llorente moving to the Wanda Metropolitano, and Diego Simeone could end a big spending window by landing Rodriguez.
