Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur have somewhat put things in order in the Champions League with a victory in their third group match. Real was in group A 1-0 too strong for Galatasaray and the Spurs dealt in group B with no less than 5-0 with Red Star Belgrade.
Both clubs had not started the European season well, with one point from the first two games. In addition to Real and Spurs, Paris Saint-Germain (visiting Club Brugge) and Bayern Munich (from Olympiakos Piraeus) also booked a win on Tuesday evening.
Duckweed matchwinner for Real
Real Madrid lost in the Spanish league of Real Mallorca last weekend and had only collected one point after two Champions League matches. A visit to Galatasaray, where Ryan Babel and Ryan Donk started in the starting line-up, coach Zinédine Zidane's team escaped in the opening phase.
Florin Andone had two good opportunities to give the home team the lead, but the striker found goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois on both sides.
Where Galatasaray missed the opportunities, Real took the lead. Toni Kroos saw his swipe disappear from the edge of the penalty area via a Turkish leg in the top corner: 0-1.
