Georginio Wijnaldum admits Holland’s recent absence from major tournaments has been ‘painful’.
The Dutch missed out on qualification for Euro 2016 and the World Cup in Russia last year but look set to end their exodus next summer.
They sit top of Group C of Euro 2020 qualifying after five wins from six games, needing just a draw away in Northern Ireland next month to secure their place.

‘It was very painful to miss the last World Cup and European Championship before that,’ said Wijnaldum.
‘When we were off on holiday in the past summers, it was going through my head the whole time that we should have been there.
‘That’s why this win is so nice. Of course, we are not completely sure of a place in the tournament but we have certainly taken a giant step.’
The Liverpool star scored twice on Sunday as Holland beat Belarus in Minsk.
