Carlo Ancelotti accuses his Napoli squad of having an ‘attitude problem’ after crisis club’s shock home defeat by struggling Bologna… but boss insists he HASN’T lost the dressing room despite ongoing civil war

  • Napoli were beaten at home by Bologna, who started the day in 16th position
  • Carlo Ancelotti insists his players are still behind him despite their poor form
  • However, the former Chelsea boss admits his side have an ‘attitude problem’
  • Napoli’s stars have been at war with controversial owner Aurelio De Laurentiis

Carlo Ancelotti has accused his squad of having an ‘attitude problem’ after Sunday’s defeat by relegation-threatened Bologna left them without a win in eight games.

The Serie A giants have been in crisis for more than a month, with controversial owner Aurelio De Laurentiis fining players a total of £2million after they refused to attend a training camp he had ordered in the wake of a Champions League draw at home to Red Bull Salzburg.

Last week’s spirited 1-1 draw away at Liverpool hinted at better times to come, but Ancelotti’s men were disappointing again as they went down 2-1 at home to struggling Bologna.

The former Chelsea boss insists that his players are still behind him despite a terrible run of form, but he concedes that their heads are not in the right place with issues off the pitch still hitting the headlines.

‘The team is against the coach, they say. But it isn’t so,’ Ancelotti said after Sunday’s game.

‘I have an excellent relationship with the squad. No one has ever failed to respect me. I don’t see any friction between the players and us

‘We exchange ideas every day, the situation must be resolved quickly, because we are failing badly.

‘It’s not a problem of tactics, more of an attitude problem. Three days ago we showed great solidity against Liverpool, and we played with three midfielders.

‘We have conceded many goals, it’s true, we need solidity, but it is the mental aspect that must be improved by taking even a smidgen of responsibility.

‘The fans are disappointed and I can only agree with them. I must be more lucid in order to resolve this situation.’

The number 120 can also be seen below the new gold badge on the front of the jersey and the body of the shirt features a quote from Milan’s English founder Herbert Kilpin upon founding the club in 1899.

Mario Balotelli ‘free’ to end turbulent six-month Brescia spell in January http://www.footy.to/2019/12/25/mario-balotelli-free-to-end-turbulent-six-month-brescia-spell-in-january/ http://www.footy.to/2019/12/25/mario-balotelli-free-to-end-turbulent-six-month-brescia-spell-in-january/#respond Wed, 25 Dec 2019 19:56:40 +0000 http://www.footy.to/?p=14509

Mario Balotelli ‘free’ to end turbulent six-month Brescia spell in January as club president Massimo Cellino reveals he’ll be allowed to leave for nothing after suffering racial abuse

  • Mario Balotelli only joined his hometown club Brescia during summer window
  • The striker suffered racist abuse while playing against Hellas Verona last month
  • He fell out with head coach Fabio Grosso in the aftermath and was dropped
  • Massimo Cellino insists the player is now free to leave the club during January

Mario Balotelli is free to leave Brescia this January, according to the club’s president Massimo Cellino.

The former Manchester City and Liverpool striker joined on a free transfer in the summer after leaving Marseille, but was the victim of racist abuse during the club’s 2-1 defeat by Hellas Verona on November 3.

The 29-year-old picked up the ball and booted it into the crowd and threatened to walk off the pitch after reacting to the actions of some home fans in the stadium.

Since then, it has been reported that Balotelli reportedly had a training ground altercation with manager Fabio Grosso and was dropped by the World Cup winner for the defeat at Roma.

The aftermath has left a sour taste in the mouth of the striker, who now looks set for an exit in January.

‘Mario is sad because he can’t express the game of football,’ Cellino said on Italian TV programme La Iene.

‘For him to play in Serie A is a big sacrifice, maybe he thought it was simpler.

‘In January he is free to go away for free. Right now he has to choose the road up or down. He has to convince himself. I don’t want him to go away. If he leaves, we have both lost the bet.’

There was further controversy after the game in Verona when Cellino made an ill-judged comment, with Brescia defending their owner after he had stated about Balotelli: ‘He’s black, what can I say?’

Cellino defended his words, insisting that he was attempting to diffuse the situation, and insisting that he had not offended the forward.

‘I wanted to play it all down, but I did it too much,’ he added.

‘Me, racist? I’m Catholic, I can’t be. What did I mean by ‘he’s clearing himself up’? If you don’t like him, does it mean this boy must be cleared up to be accepted?

‘I spoke with him yesterday, it was not me that offended him. When my joke was put in that way [by the media], I was more worried about Mario than anything else. My sentence was manipulated.’

Balotelli has been linked with Turkish club Galatasaray as a possible destination next month, while there is reportedly interest from MLS clubs and Copa Libertadores champions Flamengo.

Brescia perform stunning U-turn to sack new manager Fabio Grosso after three straight defeats, zero goals scored and TEN conceded… before replacing him with Eugenio Corini, who was sacked just one MONTH ago

  • Brescia sacked Eugenio Corini and replaced him with Fabio Grosso last month
  • Grosso lost three in a row, with the team scoring none and conceding 10 goals
  • He has now been sacked and the owners have re-hired Corini just a month later
  • Brescia are rock bottom of Serie A and five points adrift of safety in top flight

Serie A strugglers Brescia have performed a stunning managerial U-turn by sacking their new manager and replacing him with the man they got rid of just a month ago.

The Italians – who count Mario Balotelli among their squad members – are rock bottom of the table and have suffered three straight defeats under their new manager Fabio Grosso.

In that time, they have scored no goals and conceded 10 – leading to the board pulling the trigger and sacking Grosso after just 28 days in charge.

The club’s fans spent much of that month protesting about the sacking of their previous manager Eugenio Corini, who steered the club to promotion from Serie B last season.

Incredibly, the board have now moved to re-hire Corini just a month after sacking him, and he will take charge of the team again in their battle to avoid relegation.

Brescia have one win in their last 10 matches, and sit five points adrift of safety in the Serie A table.

The club are owned by controversial former Leeds chief Massimo Cellino.

Real Madrid ‘intensify their pursuit of Fabian Ruiz’ with Barcelona, PSG and Manchester City also tracking £154m-rated Napoli midfielder

  • Real Madrid are reportedly stepping up their pursuit of Napoli star Fabian Ruiz
  • The Spanish midfielder is also being tracked by Barcelona and Manchester City
  • Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis once valued his star man at over £150m

Real Madrid are stepping up their efforts to sign Napoli star Fabian Ruiz, according to reports.

The in-demand midfielder is being tracked by Europe’s elite with Barcelona and Manchester City also intent on signing the 23-year-old.

Ruiz is stalling on a contract renewal at the Stadio San Paolo, and is believed to be considering his options after making a name for himself across the continent.

News of his refusal to sign a new deal has prompted Real to step up their interest, with Los Blancos remaining in ‘constant contact’ with the player, according to Cadena Ser

Paris Saint-Germain are also in the running to sign the Spain international but a move back to La Liga appears to be his preferred option.

Napoli paid £25.5million for the box-to-box star last summer, to acquire his services from Real Betis.

After a stellar debut season in Italian football, the Serie A club now consider his value to have multiplied considerably.

‘I paid €30m for Fabian and he’s a fantastic player,’ Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis is reported to have said.

‘If some of the European top clubs were to offer €180m we can start talking about selling him.’

Though the comments are not to be taken at face value, given Napoli’s general reluctance to sell their star man, ESPN report that the Italians would be increasingly tempted to allow Ruiz to leave for a fee between £68m-£85m.

Ruiz received his first senior Spain cap in June and scored in their Euro 2020 qualifier against Romania last month.

He has also showed confidence and capability in his debut season in Serie A – scoring seven goals and providing three assists.
