Chelsea ‘join the race for Mauro Icardi as PSG are still haggling over paying the £62m purchase option in his loan deal and have had £53m bid rejected’

  • Mauro Icardi signed for PSG on loan this season from Serie A side Inter Milan
  • He has impressed in Ligue 1 and the French champions are keen to do a deal
  • However, they cannot yet agree a price and don’t want to pay the full £62m
  • That has alerted Chelsea to the prospect of signing the Argentine this summer

Chelsea are reportedly in the hunt for Mauro Icardi, as PSG struggle to agree a deal for the on loan striker with his parent club Inter Milan.

The Argentina international joined the Ligue 1 champions – awarded the 2019-20 title after the season in France was cancelled last month – on a season-long-loan with an option to buy for £62m.

PSG are keen to do a deal but don’t want to pay the full price, and with a £53m bid rejected, Chelsea have been alerted to the prospect of signing goalscorer Icardi, according to The Sun

Icardi has scored 20 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions for PSG this season, having moved to Paris on loan at a cost of £11.6m.

Keen to do a deal, particularly with Edinson Cavani set to leave the club, PSG made an offer of £44.8m (€50m) plus £9m (€10m) in bonuses.

However, that has been rejected by Inter, who are keen to stick to the original price agreed in the deal last summer.

Other potential suitors for Icardi include Serie A sides Juventus and Napoli, whilst Manchester United are also keeping an eye on Icardi’s situation.

Chelsea are looking for options up front, with both Olivier Giroud’s and Michy Batshuayi’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge in doubt.

Icardi, who has eight caps for Argentina, came through the youth system at Barcelona before getting his first taste of first-team action with Sampdoria.

The 27-year-old then moved to Inter in the summer of 2013 for £11.5m, where he scored 124 goals in 219 appearances for the club over six years in Milan.

Angers winger Farid El Melali ‘arrested for MASTURBATING in public’… on the same day Algeria international signs new contract with the Ligue 1 club

  • Farid El Melali was questioned by police for allegedly masturbating in public
  • The winger had signed a contract extension with Angers a few hours earlier
  • He will be tried after his neighbours claim he exposed himself outside

Farid El Melali was caught allegedly masturbating in public on Monday, and will be tried for indecent exposure, according to AFP.

The Algeria international had only just signed a contract extension until 2023 with Ligue 1 club Angers earlier in the day.

Police say they questioned the 22-year-old on Monday evening, after his neighbours claimed they saw him exposing himself in front of the building.

‘He wasn’t targeting anyone, and wasn’t aggressive towards anyone,’ said his lawyer, Sandra Chirac-Kollarik.

However, the forward did admit an ‘inappropriate attitude’ when questioned by police, saying he thought he was alone in the courtyard of the building in question.

El Melali was released, but will ‘face trial in terms of an appearance prior to an admission of guilt.’

The prosecutor also says there is an allegation against El Melali for a similar offence in April, although the witness was unable to identify him.

Angers have said they will ‘wait for the decision’ after acknowledging the situation.

The winger has spent a lot of time on the sidelines through injury, but had scored five goals in eight appearances for his club this season before Ligue 1 was cancelled due to coronavirus.

Paris Saint-Germain ‘offer £54million for Mauro Icardi’ as they look to turn his loan deal from Inter permanent… but they risk allowing Juventus and Milan into the race after refusing to trigger automatic purchase fee

  • Paris Saint-Germain are hoping to make Mauro Icardi’s loan deal permanent
  • The Ligue 1 champions are not willing to pay the original fee agreed with Inter
  • Inter are now in a position to reject the offer, with Juventus and Milan interested

Paris Saint-Germain have made an offer to Inter Milan for striker Mauro Icardi in a bid to make his loan move permanent, according to reports.

The Argentinean spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan in the French capital, where he has scored 12 goals in 20 league appearances for the Ligue 1 champions.

The French side want the 27-year-old to lengthen his stay at the Parc des Princes, and according to reports they have made a formal bid for the striker.

According to Sky Italia, via Football Italia, PSG have offered €60million (£54million) for the attacker, however this is short of the asking price set out in the option to buy by the Serie A outfit.

That original agreement had been for €70m, but Inter could be tempted to accept a slightly lower offer given the current financial climate caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

The club have also made it clear to the Argentine that he has no future at San Siro, with vice-president Javier Zanetti admitting as much last month.

However, PSG refusing to meet the buy-out clause does leave the door open for other interested parties.

Both Juventus and Milan have been credited with an interest in Icardi, with a swap deal involving Miralem Pjanic and Alex Sandro suggested as a possibility for the former.

Lyon will miss out on the Champions League next season after having joint appeal with relegated Amiens and Toulouse rejected following cancellation of France’s Ligue 1 season due to coronavirus

  • Lyon, Amiens and Toulouse have had their appeal rejected by a French judge
  • The clubs submitted their case after France’s Ligue 1 season was ended early
  • The decision will see Lyon miss out on the Champions League next season
  • Amiens and Toulouse were also part of the appeal after they were relegated
  • Here’s how to help people impacted by Covid-19

A French judge has rejected appeals by Olympique Lyonnais, Amiens and Toulouse over the decision of the French football league (LFP) to end its season early amid the COVID-19 crisis, the governing body said on Friday.

The LFP’s decision to end the season with 10 games remaining meant that Lyon failed to qualify for Europe through the Ligue 1 standings while Amiens and Toulouse were relegated.

‘The LFP was pleased to learn that the appeals lodged by Olympique Lyonnais, Amiens SC and Toulouse FC were rejected by the summary judge of the Paris Administrative Court,’ the LFP said in a statement.

Lyon are set to miss out on the Champions League next season after an appeal was rejected

‘In three orders issued on Friday afternoon, the court ruled that the general decisions taken by the League’s board of directors on 30 April could only be challenged before the State Council, which is competent to hear regulatory decisions taken by national authorities such as the LFP.’

On Wednesday the French football league voted in favour of expanding the second tier Ligue 2 from 20 to 22 teams from next season.

Some 57 per cent of teams voted for the reform at a general assembly of clubs in the top two tiers but the change still needs to be approved by the country’s Football Federation.

This would see the bottom two in the second tier – Orleans and Le Mans – saved from relegation, while Pau and Dunkerque, the top two in the third division, still come up.

The decision to end the top flight early saw Paris Saint-Germain crowned champions for the third year in a row.

Other countries including the Netherlands, Belgium and Scotland have also cancelled their seasons early but other nations are resuming.

The Bundesliga began matches last weekend and Spanish, Italian and English top-flight clubs have returned to controlled training.

Inter Milan ‘REJECT £54m offer for Mauro Icardi from PSG’ as Italian side demand £62m fee… with Juventus and Napoli also in hunt for striker

  • Mauro Icardi has spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan in the French capital
  • He has scored 12 goals in 20 league appearances for the Ligue 1 champions
  • Icardi is currently contracted at Inter until 2022 but PSG are looking to buy him
  • Inter Milan have rejected PSG’s initial offer of £45million plus £9m in bonuses

Inter Milan have rejected Paris Saint-Germain’s offer of £45million plus £9m in bonuses for striker Mauro Icardi as the French side look to make his loan move permanent.

The Argentinian spent the 2019-20 campaign on loan in the French capital, where he has scored 12 goals in 20 league appearances for the Ligue 1 champions.

PSG want the 27-year-old to join permanently, but Inter Milan will only accept an offer of at least £54m plus £8m in add-ons, according to Sky Sport Italia and La Gazzetta Dello Sport.

Icardi is currently contracted at Inter until the summer of 2022 – after signing a new three-year deal before heading out on loan – but could be set to leave the San Siro stadium should PSG raise their offer.

The French side have already offered Julian Draxler and Leandro Paredes in exchange for a lower price on Icardi, but Inter coach Antonio Conte is not convinced by either player.

Considering that it was a free loan, the Nerazzurri expect the full payment and will not be willing to accept PSG’s discounted offer.

PSG, who have already paid £12m for the one-season loan and covered his salary, are leaving the door open for other interested parties by refusing to meet the buy-out clause.

Both Juventus and Napoli have been credited with an interest in Icardi, with a swap deal involving Miralem Pjanic and Alex Sandro suggested as a possibility for the former.

Reports suggest that an option for PSG could be to buy Icardi outright to sell him on to one of his Italian suitors to pocket an extra £14m.

Ligue 1’s 2020-21 season ‘WILL start on August 23’ after current season was curtailed and PSG were awarded the title… with Ligue 2 starting a day earlier

  • The French government cancelled the 2019-20 Ligue 1 season last month
  • PSG were declared champions while Amiens and Toulouse were relegated
  • Yet a start date for the French 2020-21 season has now reportedly been set

  • Here’s how to help people impacted by Covid-19

A date of Sunday August 23 has reportedly been set for the start of the 2020-21 Ligue 1 season, after the current season was cancelled by the French government.

PSG were declared the champions this year after the 2019-20 season was curtailed last month due to the crisis caused by the coronavirus outbreak.

While protocol at the time stated that professional sports in France could not return before September, French outlet RMC Sport believe the August date has been set, with a reformed Ligue 2 starting a day earlier on August 22.

Promotion and relegation will be maintained between Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 on a two-up, two-down basis, and Ligue 1 would remain a 20-team competition.

In terms of next season, the LFP are holding off on confirming the proposed start date until a calendar is published by UEFA for the completion of European competitions this season.

President Jean Michel Aulas confirms Lyon will begin legal action against Ligue 1 after decision to end season early meant they missed out on European football

  • French top-flight was ended with 10 games left last month due to pandemic
  • French government ruled that no football should take place before September
  • Lyon were placed in seventh and a point outside the Europa League place
  • Here’s how to help people impacted by Covid-19

Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas has confirmed that the Ligue 1 club plans to launch two legal fights after the season was ended early.

The French top-flight was ended with 10 games left last month when the French government ruled that no football should take place before September.

The French league (LFP) drew up the final standings according to a performance index – number of points per game weighed by head-to-head record.

Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas has confirmed that the club plans to launch two legal fights

Paris Saint-Germain were named as champions as the league was stopped with the vast majority of teams having played 28 games.

But with Lyon down in seventh and a point outside the Europa League places, Aulas has hit out at what he saw as a hasty decision.

‘We first asked to investigate a possible resumption of activity,’ Aulas told the L’Equipe TV channel.

Lyon's domestic campaign has already been cancelled after Ligue 1 ended the season earl

The campaign was cancelled after the French government banned football until September

‘The decision of the Minister of Sports (Roxana Maracineanu) is based on a date of August 3 which does not exist at UEFA. We can examine in detail with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Health the health protocol validated by all European countries and see if there is a possibility of recovery.

‘The second (appeal) is on the modalities for stopping the Championship and the method of calculating the classification (deciding the league after 28 games).’

The Premier League and the vast majority of its 20 clubs remain determined to finish the current season, although teams near the bottom have expressed reservations over a plan to play all remaining matches at neutral venues.

PSG ‘preparing to ask Inter Milan to extend Mauro Icardi’s loan or lower asking price from £62m to £44m for the Argentine striker’

  • PSG are ready to ask Inter Milan to extend Mauro Icardi’s loan or lower his price
  • Icardi has impressed for PSG during his season-long loan from the Serie A side
  • Inter want a cash sum for the striker this summer but PSG want to spend less

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly ready to ask Inter Milan to either extend Mauro Icardi’s season-long loan for another campaign or reduce the sum of the option-to-buy clause in his contract.

Icardi joined the Ligue 1 side during the summer on a season-long loan after being left out of Antonio Conte’s plans at Inter Milan, losing his place to Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez in attack.

The Argentine has done well during his season with PSG, who now the club want to re-negotiate the terms of his loan deal, according to L’Equipe.

PSG are preparing to ask Inter Milan to extend Mauro Icardi’s loan or lower their asking price

The Ligue 1 champions would reportedly be satisfied with either scenario of his loan being extended or asking price lowered, but Inter are keen to accept a cash sum this summer.

The current price to buy Icardi is £62million in the deal that was signed at the start of the season, but PSG want it lowered to around the £44m mark.

PSG have already paid around £11.5m to have Icardi for the season, which would mean he would cost them around £59m if they repeated this.

Juventus and Napoli have also shown interest in the 27-year-old, but it’s reported that Inter put a clause forcing PSG to pay extra if they bought Icardi and then immediately sold him to a rival Serie A side.

Icardi has scored 20 goals and provided four assists in 31 competitive matches for the French side.
