Man United: West Ham want Wan-Bissaka and may use him at CENTRE back but deal hinges on Sergino Dest

West Ham want Man United outcast Aaron Wan-Bissaka and could even use him as a CENTRE back – but any deal hinges on whether Erik ten Hag’s side move for Barcelona right-back Sergino Dest

West Ham are keen on signing Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka before Thursday evening’s transfer deadline.

However, the potential deal depends on whether United can sign Barcelona right back Sergino Dest.

Hammers manager David Moyes could even use Wan-Bissaka, who has almost exclusively played as a right back during his career, as a centre back if they can sign him.

The 24-year-old left hometown club Crystal Palace after one full season in south London, joining the Red Devils for £50million in July 2019.

However, uncapped Wan-Bissaka quickly fell out of favour with United fans for his perceived lack of attacking ability.

This season under new manager Erik ten Hag, the United outcast has only played four minutes of Premier League football and has been used as a backup to Diogo Dalot at right-back.

West Ham, enduring an injury crisis at centre back with summer signing Nayef Aguerd and Craig Dawson out and Angelo Ogbonna, 34, having just returned from injury, are considering using Wan-Bissaka in an unfamiliar position at centre half.

But United are unwilling to let Wan-Bissaka leave unless they sign someone to offer cover and competition for Dalot, with doubts over 21-year-old Brandon Williams’ ability to fill in.

So Dest, 21, out of favour at Barcelona and who would be ‘open’ to an Old Trafford switch, holds the key if Wan-Bissaka is to exit, to either West Ham or the Eagles, who are also interested in bringing him in.
