Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ‘to hold talks with SIX Manchester United fringe players he wants rid of in the January window’ with Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Daniel James among those ready to be moved on
- Man United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could look to ease out six fringe players
- The Old Trafford boss is said to be eyeing January exits for the frozen out stars
- Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo and Sergio Romero are set to go on loan or permanently
- Daniel James, Jesse Lingard and Brandon Williams could also be on the way out
Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will begin a major clearout this week by speaking to six of his fringe players about loan or permanent moves away from the club, according to reports.
Solskjaer rarely uses several members of his 35-man squad and is keen to create space for more signings at the end of this season.
That will lead to showdown talks this week with the likes of goalkeeper Sergio Romero, who The Sun has reported wants to right the wrong he felt when a deadline day move was dashed last summer.

Out-of-favour Marcos Rojo is also believed to be a potential candidate for a switch in January
Injury-hit defender Phil Jones is a target for struggling West Brom and Marcos Rojo is reportedly wanted by Newcastle, having failed to appear for the club during the current campaign.
Out-of-favour livewire Jesse Lingard had his contract extended by a year earlier this week in a move that is almost certain to have been made with a view to ensuring that United receive a fee for his services.
Former England midfielder Lingard has been restricted to Carabao Cup outings for the joint Premier League leaders this season and has been linked with a surprise move to Tottenham, potentially reuniting him with former United boss Jose Mourinho.
Winger Daniel James scored as he completed his first 90 minutes of the season in last month’s thrilling 6-2 win over Leeds, but has still been a peripheral figure for much of the season and could be set for a loan move to continue his development.
Despite being deployed frequently by Solskjaer last season, 20-year-old left-back Brandon Williams has hardly featured since the start of the 2020/21 campaign and has been linked with Southampton, Newcastle and Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen.
The prospect described the year ahead as a ‘mystery’ on Instagram and is also set for talks with Solskjaer about a possible move.
Solskjaer confirmed after United’s Premier League win over Aston Villa on Friday that Atalanta winger Amad Diallo will be joining the first-team squad in January.
He added: ‘We’re always working long-term – that’s the big thing. We have targets we need, long-term, for the club.’
