‘Yes to Neymar!’: Antoine Griezmann wants Barcelona to re-sign Brazilian star despite meaning they both could have to battle for only one spot

  • Barcelona striker Antoine Griezmann reportedly wants Neymar back at the club
  • The Brazilian left for PSG in 2017 in a bid to establish himself as the world’s best
  • Now reports in Spain claim that Griezmann has given his approval for his return

Antoine Griezmann has given Barcelona the green light to re-sign Neymar from PSG this summer, despite the Brazilian possibly putting his place in the team at risk.

Neymar left the Nou Camp in 2017 for the French champions, with the Brazilian often left in the shadow of fellow forwards Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez.

His £198million move to the French capital was intended to heighten his profile and give him a better chance of winning the Ballon D’or, with the forward the figurehead of the team.

Neymar is reportedly unsettled at PSG and is being heavily linked with a return to Barcelona

But the transfer has not quite gone to plan, Neymar being plagued by injuries in recent seasons and failing to propel the club to the latter stages of the Champions League as they crave.

Now he has been heavily linked with a return to Barca, and Griezmann wants the club to do a deal to bring him back, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo.

Many pundits in Spain say that the return of Neymar would put Griezmann’s place in the side under pressure and create uncertainty around his future, as well as that of winger Ousmane Dembele.

But Mundo claim that those concerns couldn’t be further from the truth, sources saying that Griezmann has no intention of leaving the club and would welcome the healthy competition from Neymar, should he arrive.

The report says Griezmann is well aware of the chemistry Neymar has with Messi and Suarez but believes he can still fit into the team despite the possible presence of the dangerous trio, who wreaked havoc on La Liga before Neymar’s departure.

World Cup winner Griezmann is thought to believe that the more quality and firepower Barcelona have at their disposal, the better and the more titles they can win.

And with Messi and Suarez both edging towards their mid-thirties, having some younger blood would only be beneficial to the team.

The Frenchman also has a good standing with Neymar, Mundo says, with the pair regularly speaking at events and matches they have featured in, with mutual friends such as Kylian Mbappe and Filipe Luis.

Griezmann moved to Barcelona last summer and has since made 17 starts, scoring 11 goals and setting up four more.

There had been rumours the 28-year-old was unsettled at the Nou Camp and struggling to create a connection with his fellow forwards, but he looks to have found his groove, scoring four goals in his last eight and starting every game for the Spanish giants since October.

Meanwhile in Ligue 1, Neymar has made the most of his limited time on the pitch this season, making his comeback from a hamstring injury and scoring five goals in his last five games, registering six assists.
